Admission criteria and operation
Criteria
The Fortitude Centre is for anyone wishing to improve their psychological well-being, whether or not they suffer from a psychological disorder. However, certain conditions must be met.
First, the person must be motivated to seek professional help, be collaborative, open to change, and implement the recommendations. Second, the person must be respectful of themselves and others.
Finally, the Centre does not address all mental health challenges. Although clients do not have to suffer from psychological problems to benefit from the Centre's services, and many are simply looking to optimize their mental health and well-being, clients struggling with certain issues will not be able to access the services.
Among those who will not be able to benefit from the Centre's services are individuals struggling with the following problems: drug addiction, alcoholism, intermittent explosive disorder, delinquency, criminal record, difficulty managing aggression, past criminal tendencies or actions, suicidal crisis and recurrent suicidal ideation in the past year, borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, psychotic disorder, oppositional defiant disorder or any other problem identified by the psychologist during the initial pre-intervention assessment via telepractice before admission and which would be incompatible with the care offered.
If the person being assessed cannot be admitted to the Centre, they may still benefit from an assessment and may be offered external mental health services depending on the availability of our professionals.
Furthermore, since the environment is smoke-free, people struggling with smoking problems will not be able to receive care at the Centre.

Functioning
Once admitted to the Centre, clients will meet with the staff on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. This approximately one-hour meeting will allow everyone to get to know each other, better understand the general rules and those related to confidentiality, receive their weekly schedule including treatments, and be assigned their room in their respective accommodation.
The schedule allows for a balance between treatments, workshops, rest periods, and free time. Every lunchtime, clients and staff are invited to share a meal together. Activities at the Centre begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m., except in the evenings when workshops or other activities are scheduled.
